Where Ross is
Ross is bordered by San Anselmo to the north, San Rafael to the east, Larkspur to the southeast and Kentfield to the south. To the west is the protected Mount Tamalpais watershed. Sir Francis Drake Boulevard runs through the town.
The town is named for James Ross, who bought Rancho Punta de Quentin in 1859. The first post office opened in 1887, and Ross incorporated in 1908.
Landmarks
The Marin Art and Garden Center is in Ross. Near Town Hall stands the Ross Bear, a sculpture by Beniamino Bufano. The Ross School appeared in The Godfather in 1972, standing in for a town in New Hampshire.
