Where Greenbrae is
Greenbrae is usually described as the area on both sides of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard between Wolf Grade Drive and Highway 101. Corte Madera Creek is its southern edge and the San Rafael city limit is its northern edge. Larkspur Landing is on the other side of the freeway. Some people use the name only for the part north of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.
The terrain is mostly hillside and waterfront, and homes and offices here look out over San Francisco Bay, Corte Madera Creek and Mount Tamalpais. When the neighborhood was laid out, the builders kept the local oak trees and planned landscaped medians and open areas.
Which government covers an address
This is the detail that confuses people. Parts of Greenbrae are inside the Larkspur city limits, so Larkspur City Hall handles their permits and services. The rest is unincorporated, which puts it under the County of Marin. The census counts the unincorporated part with Kentfield.
